ABOUT THIS WINE:

Caligrafica

Caligrafica

Classic Red

After being picked, pressed, and fermented some red wines can still be harsh and unpalatable, so winemakers long ago discovered the remedy: oak barrels. Aging a fresh red wine in oak unites the fruit flavors with the vanilla and spice imparted by the wood. The oak adds a richness to a young wine, as well as depth and complexity. The Caligrafica is a result of this love story. It’s an elegant mixture, with blackcurrant fruit melding seamlessly into the oaky flavors from the barrel. This wine is romantic... a product and labor of love. And it took home 93 points and a Gold medal from the 2018 International Women's Wine Competition!

WINE REGION:

Outline of Lodi

Lodi

The jewel of the Central Valley, Lodi lies just east of the California Delta in an area of varied terroir. Winemakers here can extract different grape variety expressions from each plot of land. Zinfandel is common here, making deeply fruity and tantalizingly smoky wines, often from old vines. But the deep loamy soils and balmy Mediterranean climate, with its warm days and cool nights, help keep Lodi's grape varieties and winemaking styles impressively diverse. Alongside the ubiquitous Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Viognier also thrive. Lodi is a melting pot of different grape varieties and winemaking techniques, all of which make it a rewarding region to explore.

TASTING NOTES:

Oak

French Oak aging imparts a toasty, vanilla note that leads you to the powerful black-tinged fruit of fig, plum, and black currants. Dark dusty chocolate aromas continue onto the smooth and rich palate. The chalky tannins and toasty oak notes combine to give this wine an elegant balance. Fire up the wood-fired stove and cook up a fig, prosciutto and arugula pizza - a dynamite pairing to enhance the dark fig and oaky notes
