ABOUT THIS WINE:

Dita Akello

Dita Akello

Cabernet Sauvignon

The Dita Akello Cabernet Sauvignon is a brooding, dark, and complex Australian wine. With hints of minty fruit, a hallmark of Australian Cabernet, balanced by notes of cigar box and spice from a year in barrel, this is a wine to savor. The fruit jumps onto the palate, fresh notes of cassis and red currants dance around the darker and more brooding characteristics. The combination of focused fruit and herbal nuance complement a whole host of pairings. We’ve tried it with a lot of classic red wine pairings and found it does best with juicy meat dishes, think steaks, herbed pork, and even cheeseburgers. Judges love it too! It took home a Silver medal at the 2018 Harvest Challenge.

WINE REGION:

Outline of Australia

Australia

The Land Down Under is famous for taking well-known European grapes and giving them a new personality. From bold, jammy Shiraz to creamy oak-tinged Chardonnay, herbaceous Sémillon to distinctively citrusy Riesling, when it comes to quality, Australian wine can be breathtaking. This is thanks to its variety of climates and terroirs. Australia is roughly the same size as the continental United States, with temperatures ranging from searingly hot to moderately cool. The best regions have warm days and cool nights, tempered by breezes from the Southern and Indian Oceans.

TASTING NOTES:

Blackcurrant

Leather

Oak

Optimum ripeness at harvest gives hints of cassis and layers of red currants to add complexity. The primary fruits shine in this wine, and the modest oak influence adds interest in the form of cigar box and brown spices. The result is a combination of focused fruit and herbal nuances that best complement herb-laced meat dishes, steak salads and savory dishes. The fresh acidity stands up to rich foods such as bacon cheeseburgers, and hearty meals such as stews.
