The different grapes in this Viognier blend all play different parts: Viognier is the protagonist, Vermentino is the best friend, Albariño is the love interest, and Verdelho and Chardonnay are secondary characters. With all of them together the plot unfolds with notes of peaches, citrus, and flowers. Crisp acidity and minerality are the subtext, which turns this novel into a choose your own adventure when paired with different foods. Judges love it too! It took home 91 Points and a Gold medal from the 2019 West Coast Wine Competition.

Located halfway between LA and San Francisco, the Paso Robles AVA in San Luis Obispo County has two main zones. The eastern side has a hot and sunny climate with deep, rich soils producing plush, fruity wines with sweet ripe flavors. To the west, the cooling influence of the Pacific brings a zingy backbone to rich Zinfandel and Rhône favorites like Syrah and Viognier. Italian varietals like Sangiovese and Nebbiolo are also favorites of Paso Robles grape growers and wine drinkers.

This is a complex blend with every constituent part playing a role. Viognier contributes peaches and apricots as well as floral characteristics like honeysuckle, violet, jasmine and rose petals. Vermentino bringing crisp acids, citrus-leaf aromatics, and pronounced minerality. Albarino which contributes and herbal and mild vegetal character, and Chardonnay rounds out the blend.
